PLAY! TOWN BY MATTEL, DUBAI
Project name: Play! Town by Mattel
Programme: Indoor kids entertainment center
Area (GFA): 5000 sqm
Position: Design Manager for Samsung C&T Corporation (Project Management Consultant)
Developer: Meraas Holdings
Project description:
Indoor kids entertainment center containing Mattel-branded attractions, including Bob the Building, Angelina Ballerina, Barney and Thomas the Tank Engine. The park comprises 10 attractions, which go from a 4D cinema to activities engaging kids’ participation to daily shows from Mattel characters staged on the park’s theatre.
Key stakeholders: Meraas Holdings, Forrec, ISG Contracting Company, Sim Leisure Gulf Contracting
Main responsibilities: The project included fit-out works only to be executed on a building built by others. At initial stages my key responsibility was to finalize the attractions major features to ensure the base building was design and built to suit the same. Liaising with Mattel and Forrec to accommodate the IP holder requirements into the base building whilst ensuring the design was in line with local Authorities regulations. Once the design was finalized, liaising with the fit-out Contractor to ensure the look and feel of the place met the Developer’s expectations and finalizing all Developers’ decisions.
Major achievements: The project was built on a very tight timeline, as it is the usual case in Dubai. Getting the ride vendors requirements in place, expediting the information to the Contractors to ensure the same was incorporated in the technical documents and at the same time ensuring the technical requirements wouldn’t detriment the creativity of the design. As all projects were IP holders are involved the major achievement on this project was obtaining IP holder approval for all the design and construction works.
Project status: Construction completed August 2016.
