About Me

valeria-sevilla-project-managerSince a very young age I found passion in drawing, which later developed into architecture. I graduated in 2006 from Universidad de la Republica in Uruguay and rapidly developed an interest in project management.

My career started even before I got my degree, working free lance for projects in Uruguay and Qatar; which gave me the opportunity to see different design styles, construction details and ways of execution.

As I got more experience, I joined GC:Arquitectos as a Project Manager, a boutique design & build architecture firm in Uruguay.

I travelled a lot as a teenager and lived in the US and France for short periods of time while studying. As a young architect working in Uruguay I dreamed of seeing the world from a different perspective and to challenge myself. At that time Dubai was booming, and my then boyfriend and I decided to embark on the adventure of finding a job in Dubai; it was the best experience an architect could ever dream of!

I worked in Dubai for 12 years. Starting as a Consultant with Aedas Architects, a global award-winning architectural firm, then shifting to the Contracting side with the construction arm of Samsung, to end up working in one of the world’s biggest and best reknown Developer, Emaar Properties. Wearing all hats helped me develop an in-depth understanding of what is required to deliver a project diligently, having in mind both the benefit of the Project and all stakeholders.

During my career I cultivated a special interest in sustainability, obtaining the LEED AP BD+C accreditation from the US Green Building Council in 2009, and for many years I worked on the implementation of LEED and other sustainability ratings’ requirements into construction projects.

To strengthen my architectural background and have a sound understanding on Project Management, I took several couses on Project Management (from PMI) and FIDIC Contracts Management.

I worked in low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise, residential, hospitality, entertainment, museums, theme parks, commercial, mixed-use and master planning projects. I was part of all project delivery stages; design, tender, construction and development, until handing over to end-users. My portfolio also includes several projects for reknown international brands such as VisaCirque du SoleilBanyan Tree Hotels & ResortsOracle and Mattel.

Twelve years and three-kids later the family brings us back to Uruguay, where we can give our kids the benefit of growing surrounded by their relatives and have a slower paced life.

Architecture is still my passion and I embrace this opportunity to bring my overseas experience to the local market, working as a Project Manager for real estate development projects in Uruguay.
